FOLLOWING massive structural alterations at the new-look Footsteps building in Whaley Bridge, the Newspaper was this week given a sneak preview.
With accommodation now available on three floors, the community centre, run by Whaley Bridge Community Trust, will be able to offer even more for residents of all ages.
The team of volunteers armed with paint brushes who were busy decorating the premises took time out on Tuesday to give an impromptu tour of the facilities.
A lottery grant of £122,000 aid for extensive work to be carried out to the Market Street remises including lift access to all floors, new toilet facilities including a disabled toilet, and a new basement area which will have a variety of uses including

a youth drop-in centre.
Nye Rowlands, from Whaley Bridge Community Trust.said: "The Lottery money was great it paid for all the major alterations. We have had to do the decorating ourselves and provide the flooring."
Local firm Paintmaster have supported the project by donating paint.
"We have had about 20 volunteers at various times," explained Nye.
Nigel Allen, Managing Director of Spire Construction, the main contractor for the project, said the basement had been the biggest challenge. "
There has been a lot of structural steel work that has gone in forming the lift shaft which has gone up the three storeys. The stonework to the rear and side elevations is excellent, we were able to get the services of David Knowles and Martin O'Neil, David has been a master stonemason in the county for many years and his skills have been passed down through the Knowles family generations."
He said they, together with Footsteps, Andy Howie from John McCall Architects and Paul Senior from Senior Projects, had all worked well as a team on the development.
Once all work has been completed the basement will be used by younger members of the community on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
The ground floor, with a new coffee bar, will have donated books for sale which helps provide ongoing financial support for the charity.
On the first floor there will be a suite of computers with internet access for courses and community use as well a meeting room.
Footsteps will move back to Market Street from their temporary premises on Beech Road at the end of February, beginning ofMarch.
